A project collaboration with my 2 cousins and myself on a Star Wars birthday cake. The whole cake is made from scratch. Here are the following steps we took to build our lovable Droid
Step 1, 7 layers of cake to build the body and dome. Body consists of 2 layers of confetti cake, 2 layers of chocolate cake, and 3 layers of red velvet. Body of cake and frosting made by my talented partners in this project.
Step 2. Attach dome to body of cake
Step 3. Frosting the body of the cake with R2D2 colors of white, grey, and later with blue and gray. Frosting and color matching applied by my talented cousins.
Step 4. Apply details of the R2 unit with frosting by piping. Detailed frosting applied by myself with useful pictures of R2D2 technical details from the web
Step 5. Add additional details with frosting
Step 6. Construct R2’s legs out of rice krispie treats. Treats and base frosting made by my talented cousin. Details piped by myself.
Step 7. Apply leg unit to the body unit. Skewers were used for extra structural rigidity.
Step 8. Apply touch up details and frosting and present!!

Had a lot of beer on Friday night with some good friends. 3 pitchers to be exact, which equaled to about a pitcher per person. Started off with the Tatonka Stout which is an Imperial Stout (8.5% by vol. of alcohol). Moved onto the PM Porter which is a Robust Porter (6.5% by vol. of alcohol) and finished off the night with the Nutty Brunette which is an American Black Ale (5.9% by vol. of alcohol). By that last pitcher, we were all pretty toasty. Had to chill at the local In N Out Burger where everyone else had the same idea. Some very attractive half Korean/White chick commented on our KiksTyo shirts that myself and my friend was wearing. We were all mingling non-sense.

Well, I cannot really read the writing on the can. But as far as all the English goes on the can, I can make out Asahi and Bireley’s. This drink is bottled by one of Japan’s major beverage companies called Asahi once again. Same makers of the Super H20 and the well known Asahi beer. The drink is very interesting. I’ve had it once back in 2007 at Narita Airport when I thought I was getting grape soda. With surprise, it is grape jello juice.
Sound weird? Yes. I bought another can to do my reivew this time around, from the same place at the Narita Airport. If you look at the can carefully, it tells you to shake and tumble well before drinking. This time I did, and it tasted a lot better than the last time. The drink comes out in pieces like jello. In fact, I think the whole drink is jello. More on the sweet side, but not as fake as the corn syrup stuff we get here, it was still good to drink. I would probably recommend chilling this drink very well before consuming next time. Overall, very very interesting drink that I know will never make it to our shores here.

Another one of those ION type drinks. First one tested was the Super H20 by Asahi. Testing this time around is Aquarius by a more world wide known company called Coca Cola Company. Aquarius has the same light citrus taste and look of Asahi’s Super H20. However, I’ve noticed that Aquarius has a more mineral saltier taste like our own Gatorade does. Still not as sweet or fake tasting as Gatorade however. Aquarius is still refreshing as Super H20. Out of the 2 tested, I would not mind either to quench my thirst.

Fanta is not so much of a big and popular brand here in the states. (At least not that I know of locally). However, you can find Fanta all over Hong Kong and Japan. Next up for review is Fanta Orange from Japan. I bought this can at one of the hundreds of vending machines at the Narita Airport in Japan. Compared to Fanta Orange in the U.S. …Japanese Fanta Orange is far superior right from the first sip. The drink does not leave a sweet aftertaste and is not sweet period. It actually tastes like a fresh orange in soda form. I’d have to say it is because they use real sugar and totally use a different formula in Asia. Fanta Orange from Japan tastes wayyyyy better than Fanta Orange here. Too bad I only got a hold of the small can. I really wanted more.

Picked up a few drinks to kill off my loose change in Japan before coming back home. First drink I tried is Asahi’s Super H20. Asahi usually known for their beer also makes a bunch of other non alcoholic beverages. Super H20 is like a mineral drink very similar to our Gatorade which replenishes electrolytes in our bodies. If you have ever had Pocari Sweat, Super H20 is very similar. However in my opinion, the taste is much lighter than Pocari Sweat. Less saltiness from the minerals. Very refreshing. The taste is a slight Citrus flavor. I wish this drink was more readily available in the states. Way better than our corn syrup based Gatorade and soda.
